Thomas Cages - Nest Boxes

Up to the 1950's all boxes were placed in the inside of each cage until the first "box within a box" design appeared. This now is a standard principle amongst many breeders. However there are many variations not all efficient that suit the birds first before the breeder.
Advantages of a box in box Nest Box
- The box is bolted to the cage for safety.
- The depth keeps the hens feeling very secure and they incubate far better than in shallower boxes.
- The developed chicks are held much longer so early falling out and death is eliminated and greater growth is achieved.
- The hens delay the laying of their nest round and a bit longer, So the loss of some of those eggs is reduced.
